Carnelian Moon - 2-2.5 inch
Product Description
This Carnelian Moon is a polished crescent in warm orange to deep red-orange, the colour that has made the stone a favourite since antiquity. The tone can shift from bright to almost blood-orange across a single piece, with the soft, cloudy colour spread characteristic of genuine Carnelian. It is a small, glowing Moon that reads warmly on a desk or altar.
Carnelian is traditionally linked to creative drive and a boost in confidence, and it has long been carried by people wanting momentum on a project or the nerve to act. As a Moon it suits a workspace or a creative corner and makes an encouraging gift.
Each Carnelian Moon is a natural stone, so the exact shade, banding, and depth of colour will vary from the piece photographed.

Geological Information
Carnelian is a chalcedony variety of the Quartz family, silicon dioxide with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system. Its orange to red-orange colour comes from iron oxide impurities and ranges from pale peach to deep blood orange. Heat treatment is common and standard practice for Carnelian: natural material tends toward brownish orange, and gentle heating produces the vivid red-orange associated with the stone, so this material can be assumed heat-treated. Genuine Carnelian shows a cloudy colour distribution when held to the light, whereas dyed agate shows colour concentrated along bands. It is one of the oldest continuously used gemstones in human history, chosen for seals because wax does not stick to it, and it appears in ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek, and Roman work, including Tutankhamun's tomb. Origins: Brazil, India, Madagascar, Uruguay, and Germany; this lot is sourced from Madagascar.
