Hematoid Quartz, also sold as Fire Quartz, is a member of the Quartz family, silicon dioxide with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal system. Its red-brown colour comes from natural hematite (iron oxide) inclusions distributed through the clear quartz as wisps, clouds, or dense concentrations, forming as iron-bearing solutions moved through the quartz during or after crystallisation. The inclusions are entirely natural, not a surface coating or stain, and the quartz base keeps its full Mohs 7 hardness, so no two pieces share the same pattern. It is a natural, untreated material. Origins: Brazil and Madagascar, occurring globally wherever hematite is present in quartz-bearing deposits.
