Amazonite Heart shows a soft sage to blue-green body broken by white feldspar streaking, the pale veins running in loose parallel bands across the face rather than scattering randomly. The green varies in saturation from one area to the next, deepening where the feldspar is scarcest. The lobes are carved symmetrically to a defined point, and the polish is even and satiny rather than glassy, which is characteristic of the material and gives the Heart a soft, warm feel against the palm at this size.

Geological Information
Amazonite is the green to blue-green variety of microcline, a potassium feldspar crystallizing in the triclinic system at a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5. Its colour comes from trace lead within the feldspar structure combined with water content, a mechanism confirmed only relatively recently and distinct from the copper-based colouring long assumed. The white streaking through the material is perthitic texture, formed as sodium-rich albite separates out from the potassium feldspar during slow cooling, which is why the pale veining follows consistent directional bands. Amazonite occurs in granitic pegmatites, with notable deposits in the Pike's Peak region of Colorado. The name derives from the Amazon River, though the green stones originally recovered there were most likely a different material. Principal sources are Brazil, the United States, Russia, Madagascar, Ethiopia and India.
