Geological Information
Ruby Zoisite, also called Anyolite, is a naturally occurring combination of opaque red ruby corundum within green zoisite, with black tschermakite hornblende. The hardness varies across its minerals, roughly Mohs 6 to 9. The name Anyolite comes from the Masai word for green, a genuine indigenous designation. It was first found commercially in 1954 in the Longido district of Tanzania, which remains the main source, with further material from Kenya.
