Apprentice Tarot Deck

Apprentice Tarot is built on the Universal Waite deck and prints a keyword directly onto the face of each card, set alongside the illustration rather than replacing any part of it. The colour is soft and warm, closer to watercolour wash than flat ink. A booklet of detailed instructions comes with the deck.

The keyword solves a specific problem in learning Tarot. Beginners commonly memorise a list of meanings and then read the list instead of the card, which caps how far the imagery itself can take them and stalls the connection that makes reading work. Printing the word where the picture is means the two are learned together from the first day, and the eye keeps drifting back to the visual clues that the word is only summarising. The deck is designed to be outgrown, which is a rare and honest thing for a beginner's deck to be.
