The Black Obsidian Wand is a long, carved wand with a body of jet-black Obsidian tipped with a deep blue Lapis Lazuli point, joined by a decorative metal fitting. The Obsidian body is a smooth, glassy black and the Lapis point a rich blue often flecked with gold pyrite and white calcite, and each Black Obsidian Wand is unique in the character of both stones. It is a self-contained tool sized for the hand, suited to altar work or display.

This wand pairs two well-known stones: Black Obsidian, associated with protection and grounding, and Lapis Lazuli, associated with intuition and clear insight. Geological Information
This wand combines Black Obsidian and Lapis Lazuli. Black Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass (silicon dioxide, Mohs 5-5.5, amorphous), formed when silica-rich lava cools too rapidly for crystals to grow, with a sharp conchoidal fracture. Lapis Lazuli is a rock composed primarily of lazurite, calcite and pyrite (Mohs 5-6), its deep blue from lazurite, white veining from calcite and gold flecks from pyrite; the Afghan Sar-e-Sang deposit has been mined for over 6000 years, and ground Lapis produced ultramarine, the most valuable blue pigment of medieval and Renaissance art. Obsidian sources include the USA and Mexico; Lapis Lazuli is chiefly from Afghanistan. The metal fitting joining the two is a manufactured component.
