African Bloodstone Worry Stone - 2 inch

Red spots that a medieval reading took for something else entirel
$7.95

Product Description

African Bloodstone Worry Stone cut to a broad oval with a thumb hollow across one face. The base is a deep saturated green with a jasper-like density to it, scattered through with vivid red-orange spots that range from fine flecking to broad blotches depending on the piece. The polish is high and the red sits clearly proud of the green in visual terms while lying perfectly flush to the touch.

Bloodstone carries one of the strongest and most consistent traditions of any green stone, running through ancient Babylonia, Egypt and Rome and into medieval Christian practice, where the red spots were read as the blood of Christ. Seftonite carries that full tradition as the South African form of the same mineral type. It is commonly carried through demanding periods, held for steadiness, or given to someone who needs to keep going.

Geological Information
Seftonite, also called African Bloodstone, is a chalcedony of the quartz family, silicon dioxide crystallising in the trigonal system at Mohs 7, with green chlorite inclusions producing the base colour and red-orange hematite spots producing the markings. It is mineralogically similar to classic Bloodstone, or Heliotrope, but comes from South African rather than Indian deposits, and the South African material generally shows a deeper, more saturated green with more vivid spotting than the Indian stone. The name Seftonite is used in the trade specifically to mark that origin distinction, and the two are kept as separate materials rather than treated as interchangeable. No treatment or dye is involved; both colours are natural mineral inclusions within the silica. Bloodstone holds one of the most consistent metaphysical records of any green stone, used across ancient Babylonia, Egypt and Rome and extensively in medieval Christian tradition. South Africa is the primary commercial source.

AuturaSol Standard
Each natural stone is selected for its authenticity, geological integrity, and energetic clarity. Natural variations in colour, structure, inclusions, and surface features are inherent to geological materials and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Any known treatments, enhancements, stabilization, or man-made characteristics are clearly disclosed within the product information where applicable. Every piece is inspected and photographed to reflect its true character; however, lighting conditions, screen settings, and natural variation may cause slight differences in appearance. If you have any questions about a piece before completing your purchase, we're always here to help. Where authenticity meets beauty, we tell you exactly what you're holding.
