Blue Agate Geode Half - 4.8 x 4.9 inch

Soft lobes worn smooth around one small warm pocket
$48.95

Product Description

Almost perfectly square in proportion, this Blue Agate Geode Half is built from soft grey-blue banding that curves in loose rounded lobes around a small crystalline pocket set low and slightly right of centre. The layers are wide and gently graded with no hard boundaries between them, giving the face a smooth, worn appearance. A dark edge runs the outer margin and a warm fleck sits within the pocket itself. The polish is even and the piece stands on a flat cut base at equal height and width.

Banded Agate is traditionally associated with balance and harmony, and secondarily with grounding and protection. Evenly proportioned pieces are among the simplest to place, sitting comfortably on a desk, shelf, mantel or side table without needing a particular position or orientation to work. Agate is generally kept in rooms in regular use, and this one stands alone or groups with other specimens of similar size equally well.

Geological Information
Banded Agate is a chalcedony variety of the quartz family, silicon dioxide at Mohs 7 in the trigonal system, formed by cyclic silica deposition within a cavity in host rock. Where consecutive fluid influxes carried closely similar mineral content, the resulting bands grade into one another rather than meeting at sharp boundaries, which produces the soft, worn layering visible across this piece; abrupt band edges elsewhere in the same deposits record more variable conditions. The lobed rather than circular curvature reflects an uneven cavity wall the layers had to follow. Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony within the quartz family, formed through successive layers of silica deposited within a cavity over time. It is common industry practice for coloured agate to be dyed or otherwise colour-enhanced to achieve vivid, saturated tones. Agate takes its name from the Achates River in Sicily, recorded by Theophrastus, and has been worked continuously since antiquity. Sources include Brazil, India, the USA, Mexico and Germany, with this piece from Brazil.

AuturaSol Standard
Each natural stone is selected for its authenticity, geological integrity, and energetic clarity. Natural variations in colour, structure, inclusions, and surface features are inherent to geological materials and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Any known treatments, enhancements, stabilization, or man-made characteristics are clearly disclosed within the product information where applicable. Every piece is inspected and photographed to reflect its true character; however, lighting conditions, screen settings, and natural variation may cause slight differences in appearance. If you have any questions about a piece before completing your purchase, we're always here to help. Where authenticity meets beauty, we tell you exactly what you're holding.
