Blue Agate Slab - 2.2 x 5.1 inch

Layers running long and low like a horizon line
$29.95

Product Description

This Blue Agate Slab is a long shallow slice, considerably wider than it is tall, with a rough gold and olive rind running the full length of its upper edge. Beneath that crust the banding sweeps horizontally in pale blue and grey layers that follow the low arc of the cavity, opening onto a soft white crystalline strip along the centre. The proportions give it an almost landscape-like reading, the layers running left to right rather than closing in rings. The base is cut flat and the piece is the lightest in this consignment.

Banded Agate is traditionally associated with balance and harmony, with a secondary grounding and protective quality. A long low piece of this shape suits a narrow ledge, windowsill, or the front edge of a shelf where a taller specimen would not fit, and it reads best viewed straight on rather than from above. Agate is commonly kept in rooms passed through daily, and at this weight the piece is simple to move as arrangements change.

Geological Information
Banded Agate is a chalcedony variety of the quartz family, silicon dioxide at Mohs 7 in the trigonal system, formed by cyclic silica deposition within a cavity in host rock. A markedly flattened profile of this kind originates in a gas vesicle that was compressed as the surrounding lava flowed and settled before solidifying, producing a wide shallow void rather than a rounded one; the agate then filled it layer by layer along that elongated span. The banding consequently runs horizontally across the cut face rather than in concentric rings. The gold and olive crust along the upper edge is residual host basalt with iron staining. Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony within the quartz family, formed through successive layers of silica deposited within a cavity over time. It is common industry practice for coloured agate to be dyed or otherwise colour-enhanced to achieve vivid, saturated tones. Agate takes its name from the Achates River in Sicily and is recovered globally from Brazil, India, the USA, Mexico and Germany. This piece originates in Brazil.

AuturaSol Standard
Each natural stone is selected for its authenticity, geological integrity, and energetic clarity. Natural variations in colour, structure, inclusions, and surface features are inherent to geological materials and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Any known treatments, enhancements, stabilization, or man-made characteristics are clearly disclosed within the product information where applicable. Every piece is inspected and photographed to reflect its true character; however, lighting conditions, screen settings, and natural variation may cause slight differences in appearance.
