Geological Information
Bronzite is an iron magnesium silicate of the pyroxene group, orthorhombic in system, with a Mohs hardness of 5.5 to 6. It is the iron-bearing variety of enstatite and forms in igneous and metamorphic environments. Its defining bronze metallic sheen, called schiller or bronzing, is produced by light reflecting off thin parallel iron-rich lamellae within the crystal structure, a mechanism structurally analogous to the labradorescence in labradorite though it produces a warmer and more diffuse effect. The material is natural and requires no treatment. There is little distinct historical metaphysical tradition attached to Bronzite, which is primarily a modern retail stone.
