Chevron Amethyst is a banded combination of purple amethyst and white quartz, both silicon dioxide at Mohs 7, in which the two grew in alternating layers to form the characteristic V-shaped chevron pattern. The purple comes from iron impurities and natural irradiation in the amethyst layers, set against the milky white quartz. It is a natural, untreated material, though as an amethyst-bearing stone its purple can be altered by heat. It is sourced mainly from Brazil and India.
