Cherry Creek Jasper is a chalcedony variety within the quartz family, silicon dioxide crystallising in the trigonal system at Mohs 7. Its colouring comes from varied mineral trace content distributed diffusely through the silica matrix rather than from any single mineral, which is why the tones blend into one another instead of banding or spotting. The documented range runs through cream, pink, green and light brown, though individual lots skew warmer or cooler within that range. No treatment, dye or enhancement is applied; the soft distribution is natural to the material and is what separates it from the more vivid and boldly patterned jaspers. The trade name is modern with no tradition attached to it, and China is the primary commercial source.
