Lavender Quartz, also known in the trade as pale amethyst or dilute amethyst, is a trade name for pale lavender to violet-grey quartz, silicon dioxide of the trigonal system at a Mohs hardness of 7, with the dilute purple tone coming from trace iron or titanium. Its treatment status varies: it may be a naturally very pale amethyst with a lower iron concentration than standard purple amethyst, or it may be irradiated or heat-treated colourless quartz producing a dilute violet colour, so treatment status should be confirmed with the supplier and disclosed accordingly. The pale tone gives it a softer, less saturated quality than standard amethyst, and it has no distinct ancient tradition of its own, sitting close to the broader amethyst tradition rather than as a separate historical stone. Brazil is the primary source, with further deposits found in Madagascar.
