Amazonite is a blue-green variety of the feldspar family, a potassium aluminium silicate crystallizing in the triclinic system with a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5. Its blue-green to teal colour comes from trace lead and water within the feldspar structure, and the pale white striations or patches running through the body are natural and expected. It is named after the Amazon River, though no significant deposits occur there. Amazonite was used in Ancient Egypt and was recovered from the tomb of Tutankhamun. Commercial material comes from Brazil and the USA, along with Russia, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and India.
