This is a natural combination of Ruby and Kyanite rather than a single mineral. Ruby is the red variety of corundum, aluminium oxide at a Mohs hardness of 9, the second hardest natural mineral after diamond, its red from chromium. Kyanite is an aluminium silicate notable for variable hardness along its crystal axes, around 4.5 lengthwise and 6.5 to 7 across, an unusual and physically demonstrable property, and it forms as elongated blue blades. Together they give the specimen a wide hardness range.
