Golden Mica is a golden-toned variety of muscovite, the most common mica mineral, a potassium aluminium silicate crystallising in the monoclinic system at a very soft Mohs hardness of 2 to 2.5. It forms as thin, flexible sheets with a distinctive pearly lustre, here in warm gold and brown. Its name derives from "Muscovy glass," the historical use of thin muscovite sheets as window panes in Russia before glass was widely available, when it was a significant trade commodity. This material is sourced from Brazil, with further deposits in India, Russia, the United States and Portugal.
