Geological Information
Peach Moonstone is an orthoclase feldspar carrying trace iron that produces its warm peach body colour, with a hardness of 6 to 6.5 and a monoclinic structure. Its soft floating sheen, called adularescence, is produced by light scattering through the fine alternating layers of orthoclase and albite within the stone, the same structure responsible for the glow in all moonstone varieties. Sri Lankan material is regarded as the finest and most translucent. India is the primary source, with further fine material from Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
