Crow Tarot
Product Description
Crow Tarot puts crows and ravens in place of the human figures of traditional Tarot, built by Margaux Jones in digital collage, a self-taught technique she has worked in for over a decade. The birds are set into rich patterned grounds and heavy ornamental frames, and the colour runs warm and saturated. A guidebook covers upright and reversed meanings and includes a spread written for the deck.
Familiar Rider-Waite symbolism sits under every card, which is what makes the substitution work rather than merely amuse: a reader can identify what a card is doing before consciously registering that a bird is doing it. That keeps the deck usable for beginners while giving experienced readers a well-made deck with an actual point of view, since the crow carries associations with watching, gathering and crossing between things that suit divination unusually well. Jones grew up south of Boston and the city runs through the collages, so the birds tend to appear against something built rather than something wild.
