The chevron banding is caused by oscillating iron availability in the silica-bearing fluid during crystal growth, producing a stone that shows both the full purple of amethyst and the clarity of white quartz in distinct geometric layers. It shares the full historical tradition of amethyst, documented across Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Christian cultures. This material is sourced primarily from Brazil, with further deposits in India, Madagascar and Namibia.
