Dragon Bloodstone Worry Stone cut to a broad oval with a thumb hollow across one face. The base is a deep olive green, broken by irregular patches and spatters of dark red that vary from fine speckling on some pieces to broad continuous zones on others. The polish is high and the two colours meet with hard edges rather than blending, which is what produces the scaled effect the name refers to.

Geological Information
Dragon Bloodstone, also sold as Dragon Blood Jasper, is commercially misnamed: it is not a silica-based jasper but a composite metamorphic rock of green epidote carrying red piemontite inclusions, at Mohs 6 to 7. The green comes from the epidote content and the red from piemontite or iron oxide, and the alternation between them produces the scaled appearance the trade name plays on. Disclosing the true composition matters here, since a buyer expecting a chalcedony jasper is getting a materially different rock. The material is a late twentieth century commercial discovery from South African mining with no documented ancient tradition; the name is modern marketing with no historical basis behind it. Commercial material comes from South Africa and Australia.
