Chevron Amethyst is a member of the Quartz family (silicon dioxide, Mohs 7, trigonal system) in which purple iron-bearing Amethyst and white quartz have crystallised in alternating V-shaped bands. The chevron pattern is caused by oscillating iron availability in the silica-bearing fluid during crystal growth, producing distinct geometric layers that show both the full purple of Amethyst and the clarity of white quartz. It shares the full historical tradition of Amethyst across Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Christian cultures. Principal source is Brazil, along with India, Madagascar and Namibia.
