Mookaite, also called Mookaite Jasper, is a sedimentary jasper formed from silicified radiolarian chert, with a hardness of 7. It formed from the silica-rich remains of ancient radiolarian marine microorganisms, and its vivid range of red, yellow, cream, purple, and white is entirely natural, with no treatment. The material comes from a single locality, Mooka Creek in Western Australia, making it a strict single-source stone, and it has been used by Aboriginal Australians for thousands of years as a genuine heritage material. All Mookaite originates exclusively from that Western Australian source.
