Geological Information
Cherry Blossom Agate is a microcrystalline quartz (a chalcedony) from Madagascar, trigonal and Mohs 7, in which radial mineral inclusions - primarily manganese oxide with other trace minerals - form circular, plume-like patterns resembling cherry blossom flowers. The blooms develop as minerals crystallise outward from nucleation points within the silica, so no two pieces share the same distribution. It is a relatively recent commercial discovery, and Madagascar also produces blue and green variants from the same deposits. Its sole significant source is Madagascar.
