Noreena Jasper is a chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz, silicon dioxide), trigonal and Mohs 7, coloured red, orange, cream, and purple by varied silica and iron oxide deposition that produces its distinctive angular, geometric patterning. It comes exclusively from Noreena Gorge in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, one of the geologically oldest landscapes on Earth, and the material is roughly 2.5 billion years old, among the oldest decorative stones available. It entered the international market only in the late 20th century. Its sole source is Western Australia.
