Lepidolite is a lithium-bearing member of the mica family, a potassium lithium aluminium silicate, monoclinic in structure and very soft at Mohs 2.5-3. Its lilac to purple colour comes from lithium and manganese content, and its faintly reflective, layered surface is characteristic of the micas. It typically forms in lithium-rich granite pegmatites.
