Geological Information
Palo Santo is the fragrant heartwood of Bursera graveolens, a tree native to the seasonally dry tropical forests of Ecuador, Peru, and Central America. Its golden to amber hue, often veined with darker natural oils, only develops its full aromatic character after the wood has fallen naturally and aged for several years, concentrating the resinous compounds limonene and cedrol that give the wood its warm, sacred scent. Palo Santo is never harvested from a living tree, only gathered from wood that has already fallen and rested on the forest floor.
