Palo Santo ("holy wood") comes from the heartwood of Bursera graveolens, a tree native to the seasonally dry tropical forests of Ecuador, Peru, and Central America. Only naturally fallen wood, aged four to ten years before harvest, is used, as this aging period is essential for developing the tree's fragrant resinous compounds, including limonene and cedrol.
