Healrite Heart cut to a symmetrical lobed shape with a full, rounded body and a soft point. The colour is a strong yellow-green, running closer to apple or to olive depending on the piece, with darker mottling and occasional paler veining moving through it. The polish is smooth and the lustre waxy rather than glassy, which is typical of this material.

Serpentine is traditionally associated with change and with clearing a path through it, and is more often chosen for encouragement through a transition than for comfort during one. Geological Information
Healrite is a traditional trade name for a variety of Serpentine. Although some serpentine deposits in nature may be associated with asbestos-forming minerals, polished Healrite is widely used as an ornamental stone. Serpentine is not a single mineral but a group of related magnesium silicate hydroxide minerals, Mohs 3 to 5, crystallising in the monoclinic system, and the name refers to the stone's resemblance to snakeskin. Its green runs from pale yellow-green to deep forest green and is frequently mottled. The material is widely used as a jade substitute and is sometimes sold as jade, which it is not; Bowenite is the translucent gem variety of the group. Serpentine was worked in ancient China, Egypt and across Mesoamerica as a green stone, though Maori pounamu is nephrite rather than serpentine despite both being green. Commercial sources include New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, the USA, Afghanistan and China.
