Heart & Hands Tarot

Heart and Hands Tarot is a black and white deck drawn entirely in line by artist and illustrator Liz Blackbird, built over several phases of her life. The technique is intricate and unified across all seventy-eight cards, with flowers and figures pushing out past the edges of the scenes and into the framing itself. A guidebook accompanies the deck.

The imagery is eclectic but anchored in the figures and symbolism of the Rider-Waite-Smith system, so a reader already fluent in that language will find their footing immediately while looking at something that resembles nothing else. Working in one ink means light and dark carry equal weight on the card, and the eye follows the density of the drawing rather than a colour cue. The exuberance in the linework is the deck's own character, and it reads as one artist's sustained project rather than a house style, which is what a personally made deck is for.
