The Labradorite Heart is a polished, symmetrical heart with a dark grey base that flashes with colour as it moves in the light, the two rounded lobes meeting at a soft point and sized to rest in the palm. Turned toward a light source, each Labradorite Heart flares in blues, greens and golds across its high polish, the signature play of colour appearing and vanishing with the angle. It has a smooth, solid feel in the hand.

Geological Information
Labradorite is a plagioclase member of the feldspar family (Mohs 6-6.5, triclinic system), with a grey to dark grey base and a spectacular multicolour iridescence running through blues, greens and golds, more rarely orange, red and violet. This effect, called labradorescence, is caused by light interference between thin lamellar layers within the feldspar structure. The stone is named after Labrador, Canada, where it was first described by Europeans in 1770, though the Inuit of Labrador had known and used it for centuries; Inuit legend holds that the Northern Lights were once trapped in the coastal rocks until a warrior struck them and freed most of the light into the sky, leaving some behind in the stone. Spectrolite is a high-quality Finnish variety. Principal sources include Madagascar and Canada, along with Finland, Russia and Mexico.
