Rutilated Quartz is silicon dioxide at Mohs 7 containing needle-like crystals of rutile, titanium dioxide, growing through the quartz matrix, a fully natural inclusion formation. Tiger Eye is a chalcedony of the same quartz family, its golden chatoyant band produced by silica that replaced parallel crocidolite fibres; the replacement is complete and the stone is safe to handle. Both stones share Mohs 7 durability, well suited to chip work on a wire tree. The Rutilated Quartz is sourced primarily from Brazil and Madagascar, the Tiger Eye from South Africa, with the piece assembled in India.
