Inversion Tarot in a Tin

Black and white only, so nothing carries but line and form

Product Description

Inversion Tarot in a Tin is a pocket-sized 78-card deck printed entirely in black and white, based on mid-century artwork created in 1960 by Paul Mathison for the Rolla Nordic Tarot. The images have been inverted and refined, with new detail and decorative elements brought forward for a stark, contemporary result. The deck and its 64-page booklet pack into a hinged tin.

The deck follows the Marseille tradition, which structures its minor arcana as pip cards rather than the full pictorial scenes of the Waite-Smith line, and reading it draws on number and suit rather than narrative imagery. Removing colour entirely pushes attention onto line and form. The booklet includes instructions for two spreads. Jody Boginski Barbessi studied fine arts at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, the school Pamela Colman Smith attended before illustrating the Rider-Waite deck.
