Dragonblood Jasper, despite its trade name, is not a true silica jasper but a composite metamorphic rock with a Mohs hardness of 6 to 7, in which deep green epidote carries vivid red inclusions of piemontite or iron oxide. The green comes from the epidote content and the red from the piemontite, and this true composition is worth clarifying for informed customers. It is a natural, untreated material. The primary sources are South Africa and Australia.
