Kunzite is the pink to lilac variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminium silicate at Mohs 6.5 to 7, coloured by trace manganese. It has perfect cleavage and can split or chip along clean planes. Major sources include Afghanistan, Brazil, the USA, Madagascar and Pakistan.
