Geological Information
Flower Agate is a microcrystalline quartz from the chalcedony family, silicon dioxide, with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system. Opaque pink chalcedony has crystallised in three-dimensional plume formations within a translucent white to cream quartz matrix, with the blooms forming as chalcedony grows into the quartz cavity at a later stage, and cross-sections reveal the flower-like structures in full. Madagascar is the sole significant commercial source, and the material entered the international market around 2018, rapidly becoming one of the most popular new agate discoveries. This tower form is also sold as an Obelisk or a Point, all describing the same faceted, single-terminated cut. Its origin is Madagascar.
