Angelite is a calcium sulfate of the anhydrite family, with a low Mohs hardness of 3.5 and an orthorhombic structure. Its pale blue to blue-grey colour comes from manganese and other trace impurities, and it forms in massive habit, sometimes called blue anhydrite in mineral contexts. Angelite forms from celestite compressed over millions of years, a genuine relationship between the two minerals, and it is largely a modern metaphysical-market stone without a deep historical tradition.
