Geological Information
Rose Quartz is silicon dioxide from the quartz family, with a Mohs hardness of 7 and a trigonal crystal system, its pink colour coming from trace titanium, iron, or manganese, or from microscopic pink fibre inclusions of dumortierite or similar minerals. It occurs in two forms: massive rose quartz coloured by microscopic fibre inclusions, as in this tower, and the rarer clear rose quartz crystals coloured by trace elements; star rose quartz can show a six-rayed asterism from oriented fibre inclusions when cut as a cabochon. It was used in ancient Egypt and Rome as a love token, found in Egyptian cosmetic contexts and Roman burial sites, giving it one of the strongest historical love-stone associations in the market. This tower form is also sold as an Obelisk or a Point, all describing the same faceted, single-terminated cut. Principal sources include Brazil, Madagascar, India, South Africa, and the United States.
