Kambaba Jasper Worry Stone cut to a compact oval with a thumb hollow across one face. The ground is a mottled dark green through to black, and across it sit ring-shaped patterns of varying size, some crisp and complete and others overlapping into one another until the outlines blur. The polish is high and the pattern reads clearly under a light, less so in shade, where the whole stone tends toward a uniform dark green.

Kambaba Jasper is traditionally used for calm and for grounding, and it appeals to two very different buyers: those drawn to the associations, and those who want it purely because of what the pattern actually is. It is commonly pocketed rather than displayed, and returned to through a difficult stretch. Its interest lies as much in its fossil origin as in any association attached to it.

Geological Information
Kambaba Jasper is not a true jasper. It is a stromatolite, fossilised colonies of cyanobacteria preserved in silica at Mohs 6.5 to 7, and the circular patterns are the cross-sectioned remains of microbial mats built up layer by layer in shallow ancient water. Cyanobacteria are among the oldest life forms on Earth and were responsible for oxygenating its early atmosphere, and some stromatolite material of this kind is estimated at over three billion years old, which makes the pattern a biological record rather than a mineral one. The material is sometimes traded as Crocodile Jasper, in reference to the same orbicular markings. No treatment or enhancement is applied. Commercial material comes from Madagascar and South Africa.
