Larvikite Worry Stone cut to a smooth oval with a thumb hollow across one face. At rest the stone is a dense dark grey to near-black, flecked throughout with pale crystal faces, and turned into the light those faces flash a cool silver-blue that sweeps across the surface and disappears. The polish is high and the stone is heavy and cold, with the flash sitting deeper in the body than a surface sheen would.

Larvikite is traditionally used for grounding and for clear seeing, and it appeals particularly to people who find the more colourful iridescent stones overstated. It is commonly carried and turned through the day, kept where a moving light will catch it, or chosen by someone who wants the flash without the drama. The effect is quiet compared with labradorite and that restraint is generally the point.

Geological Information
Larvikite is an igneous rock, an augite syenite, at Mohs 6 to 6.5, and its dark grey to black body carries a distinctive silver-blue schiller produced by light interference in layered feldspar crystals within the rock matrix. That optical mechanism is closely related to the one behind labradorescence, though the effect here is cooler and more restrained. The material is found in the Larvik region of Norway and genuine larvikite comes from nowhere else, which is unusual for a stone this widely distributed: it is used as an architectural facing stone worldwide and appears in building facades and countertops far from its source. It is also sold as Norwegian Moonstone and, in architectural contexts, as Blue Pearl Granite, and neither name is mineralogically accurate, since it is neither a moonstone nor a granite. Norway remains the sole origin.
