Geological Information
Peach Moonstone is an orthoclase feldspar, a potassium aluminium silicate with trace iron, with a Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5 and a monoclinic structure. Its warm peach to apricot body colour comes from the trace iron, while the floating white-to-blue sheen, called adularescence, is produced by light scattering between alternating lamellar layers of orthoclase and albite, the same optical mechanism shared by all moonstone varieties. The warm colouration has given it a stronger association with nurturing and creative energies in modern practice, alongside the broader lunar tradition of moonstone. Sri Lanka produces the finest translucent peach material. Sources include India, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar.
