The Fluorite Top Polished Point is a single point with a glassy, fully polished finish and naturally banded colour moving through green and violet-purple. The colour tends to sit in soft zones and layers, a record of the crystal's growth, and the polish draws out its translucent depth. The point is faceted to a clean termination at the top and cut flat at the base so it stands on its own, with a cool, satisfying heft for its size.

Geological Information
Fluorite is calcium fluoride, a halide mineral that crystallises in the cubic system at a Mohs hardness of 4, the mineral that defines that point on the hardness scale. Its wide colour range, here greens and purples, comes from trace impurities and natural irradiation acting on the crystal during growth, with the banding recording successive growth phases. Fluorite has perfect octahedral cleavage in four directions, meaning it can split cleanly along those planes. The word fluorescence derives from Fluorite, as it was the first mineral observed to glow under ultraviolet light, and much Fluorite does fluoresce. Commercial Fluorite comes chiefly from China, the source of this material, with further deposits in Mexico, South Africa and England's Derbyshire.
