Geological Information
Mookaite Jasper is a sedimentary jasper at a Mohs hardness of 7, formed from the silicified remains of ancient radiolarian marine organisms, with a vivid natural colour range across red, yellow, cream, purple and white. It is found exclusively along Mooka Creek in Western Australia, a strict single-source material, and has been used by Aboriginal Australians for thousands of years. The colour banding reflects varied mineral content laid down through the original sediment. This material is sourced exclusively from Western Australia.
