The Smoky Quartz Top Polished Point is a single point in translucent smoke-brown to near-black, finished with a glassy polish that lets light pass through the body of the stone. The colour can deepen toward the base and lighten toward the tip, and the clarity of the Quartz gives the point a glossy, reflective depth. It is shaped to a clean termination at the top and cut flat at the base so it stands on its own.

Geological Information
Smoky Quartz is a variety of quartz, a silicon dioxide crystallising in the trigonal system at a Mohs hardness of 7. Its smoky brown-to-black colour is produced when natural background radiation acts on aluminium impurities within the quartz structure over geological time. The Scottish variety, Cairngorm, is deeply embedded in Highland culture, used in sgian-dubh handles, brooches and jewellery for centuries, while the near-black variety is known as Morion; the colour can be lightened by heating. This material is sourced from Brazil, with further deposits in Scotland, the United States, Switzerland and Madagascar.
