Prehnite Worry Stone cut to a large oval with a generous thumb hollow. The colour is a soft pale green tending toward yellow-green, and the material is translucent enough that light passes through the thinner sections and shows faint internal veiling as pale cloudy streaks. The lustre is waxy rather than glassy, which is characteristic, and the surface is cool and very smooth under a thumb.

Geological Information
Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate of the phyllosilicate group, crystallising in the orthorhombic system at Mohs 6 to 6.5. Its pale green to yellow-green colour comes from iron content, with blue material occurring rarely. It typically forms in botryoidal or stalactitic masses rather than as distinct crystals, which produces the translucent waxy lustre it is known for, and it frequently contains black tourmaline needles or epidote inclusions, both of which are commercially sought in their own right. The mineral holds a small distinction in the history of the science: named in 1788 after Colonel Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch mineralogist and governor at the Cape of Good Hope who brought the first specimens to Europe, it was the first mineral ever named after a person. Commercial material comes from South Africa, Australia, China, the USA and Scotland.
