Radiant Rider-Waite® Tarot
Product Description
Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot is Virginijus Poshkus's recolouring of the deck Pamela Colman Smith drew in 1909. Poshkus replaces Smith's heavy black outlines with subtle shading and works in a vivid palette that gives the familiar scenes depth they do not have in the standard printing. The card backs show a deep blue sky filled with stars. An instruction booklet opens with an introduction by Stuart R. Kaplan.
Softening the outline is the significant change. In the original, a black keyline holds every shape apart and the eye reads the card as a diagram of figures; with shading carrying that job instead, forms sit in space and the scenes acquire depth. Brighter colour then separates the symbolism cleanly, so details a reader relies on are found faster across a wide spread. Nothing about the meanings shifts, which means a reader can use any Rider-Waite commentary alongside it and simply work from a deck that is easier on the eye over a long reading.
