Geological Information
Trolleite is a rare aluminium phosphate hydroxide mineral, Mohs 5.5 to 6, usually found intergrown with quartz, which gives the characteristic blue-grey and white matrix seen in tumbled pieces. It is named after the Swedish chemist Hans Gabriel Trolle-Wachtmeister and is genuinely scarce compared with most crystals on the market. The deposit at Minas Gerais in Brazil is essentially the sole source of lapidary-quality material, which entered the wider crystal market only around 2020.
