Iolite Tumbled Chips - 4-8 mm

Deep blue-violet pleochroic chips with shifting directional colour - suited for grids, resin, altar work, and decorative arrangements
$7.95

Product Description

These Iolite Chips are small tumbled pieces in blue-violet to grey-blue, shifting in colour as they turn in the light thanks to the mineral's strong pleochroism. The chips are a loose, unstrung form suited to crystal grids, resin and jewellery craft, pouches, and decorative fills.

Iolite is traditionally associated with intuition, inner vision, and clear thinking, and is commonly used to support insight, focus, and a sense of direction. Loose chips like these are often placed in grids and intention layouts, added to craft and resin projects, or carried in a pouch. Their colour-shifting character makes them a distinctive material for intuitive, focused work.

As a natural mineral, each chip varies in its blue-violet tone and the way it catches the light across the mix, so no two are alike.

Geological Information
Iolite is the gem variety of the mineral cordierite, a magnesium aluminium silicate with a hardness of 7 to 7.5, and one of the most strongly pleochroic minerals known: viewed along different crystal axes it shows blue-violet, yellow-grey, and nearly colourless. Its name derives from the Greek ios, meaning violet. Its polarising property was famously put to use by Viking navigators as a solar compass, allowing them to locate the sun on overcast days, one of the best-documented navigational uses of any gemstone. The material is sourced chiefly from India, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar, with further deposits in Brazil and Norway.

AuturaSol Standard
Each natural stone is selected for its authenticity, geological integrity, and energetic clarity. Natural variations in colour, structure, inclusions, and surface features are inherent to geological materials and contribute to the individuality of each piece. Any known treatments, enhancements, stabilization, or man-made characteristics are clearly disclosed within the product information where applicable. Every piece is inspected and photographed to reflect its true character; however, lighting conditions, screen settings, and natural variation may cause slight differences in appearance. If you have any questions about a piece before completing your purchase, we're always here to help. Where authenticity meets beauty, we tell you exactly what you're holding.
