Geological Information
Sodalite is a sodium aluminium silicate chloride, a feldspathoid rather than a true feldspar, with a hardness of 5.5 to 6 and a cubic structure. Its blue colour comes from sulphur and iron, and the white streaks are calcite veining. It is frequently confused with lapis lazuli but lacks lapis's gold pyrite flecks, showing instead a more uniform blue with white veining. The material is sourced chiefly from Brazil, Canada, and Namibia, with further deposits in India and Russia.
