Rutilated Quartz is a clear to smoky quartz (silicon dioxide, Mohs 7) containing needle-like inclusions of rutile, a titanium dioxide mineral, that appear as golden, silver, or reddish threads running through the stone. It is a natural, untreated material, and the inclusions form naturally as the quartz crystallises around pre-existing rutile needles. The effect is prized for its striking internal patterning. The primary sources are Brazil and Madagascar.
