Universal Waite Tarot is a full 78-card deck presenting Pamela Colman Smith's drawings re-coloured by Mary Hanson-Roberts in serene, softened tones with added detail. The original meanings and symbolism of the Rider-Waite artwork carry through unchanged; only the palette and finish differ.

The softer colouring is what distinguishes this edition, making the imagery more approachable for newcomers while holding the enhanced detail that appeals to experienced readers. The calmer palette also suits meditative use, and the deck is commonly kept for contemplative work as much as for divination. Because the underlying system is unchanged, any Waite-Smith instruction applies directly.
